My candidates won handily, though as the <a title=\"Reed Wins\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/stltoday\/news\/stories.nsf\/story\/4D281AE773CED6BE86257297001D0EB5?OpenDocument&#038;highlight=2%2C%22lewis%22+AND+%22reed%22\" target=\"_blank\">Post Dispatch<\/a> reminds me, they still have to survive the general election. Turnout was indeed low. Lewis Reed, my candidate for aldermanic president, won with a mere <a title=\"election results\" href=\"http:\/\/elections.post-dispatch.com\/voter\/stlouiscity.asp\" target=\"_blank\">14,729 votes<\/a> to his opponent&#8217;s 12,686. In my ward, Kacie Starr Triplett\u00a0won with\u00a0948 votes, a majority, not a plurality, in a three-way race where her opponents&#8217; combined total was 930. I voted late in the day, at about 6:00 p.m. At that time only 89 voters had cast votes in my precinct.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">On another note, I see that Senator Thomas Eagleton&#8217;s <a title=\"Eagleton funeral\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stltoday.com\/stltoday\/news\/stories.nsf\/stlouiscitycounty\/story\/1F1B50C322C90D01862572970016DB6B?OpenDocument\" target=\"_blank\">funeral<\/a> well be held at the Saint Louis University college church with Fr. Lawrence Biondi, the\u00a0university president, presiding. Various dignitaries will speak, including\u00a0Senator John Danforth.\u00a0It&#8217;s good that\u00a0Eagleton\u00a0will be honored in his home town. His country treated him shabbily in 1972. And it&#8217;s a curious irony that that a mere quarter century ago this country, which has had alcoholics (including our current president)\u00a0and megalomaniacs in the White House,\u00a0couldn&#8217;t tolerate the thought of a person who had been treated for depression serving as vice president.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, yesterday was the local Democratic primary.
