{"id":2556,"date":"2010-06-23T08:30:44","date_gmt":"2010-06-23T14:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/julianlong.net\/wordpress\/?p=2556"},"modified":"2010-07-01T09:10:14","modified_gmt":"2010-07-01T15:10:14","slug":"oil-spill-demagoguery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/julianlong.net\/wordpress\/oil-spill-demagoguery\/","title":{"rendered":"oil spill demagoguery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It now appears that Judge Martin Feldman, <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2010\/06\/23\/us\/23drill.html?th&#038;emc=th\">who issued a temporary injunction<\/a> against the administration&#8217;s moratorium on deep water drilling, has perhaps more than one <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.midlandsconnect.com\/news\/story.aspx?id=473810\">conflict of interest<\/a>. Other judges who, like Feldman, have money in oil and gas, recused themselves from lawsuits related to the Gulf Coast oil spill.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans are engaging in follow-up demagoguery, or perhaps it isn&#8217;t follow-up. Judge Feldman&#8217;s arguments in this case could have been scripted by the oil and gas industry or by Louisiana Republicans, with press releases <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/lagop.com\/2010\/06\/out-of-touch-and-more-harm-than-good\/\">like this one<\/a> flooding the Internet for weeks now.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m sure many of my persuasion will react with distress at the administration&#8217;s apparent lack of anger, especially in the face of demagoguery that blames the administration for the oil spill, itself.
